Letter to Congressman

Congressman McNerney,

I am writing you today to ask that you reject the Waxman-Markey climate change bill (currently in the Energy and Commerce committee) should it come to the House floor.  According to an analysis by the Heritage Society this bill will saddle the American economy with a load it cannot handle and will lead to lost jobs, higher taxes, greater national debt, and inflation.  The average family will see increases in electric and gasoline costs at a time when the government should be reducing the burden on the American taxpayer.

I know you are committed to clean energy and preserving our environment for future generations.  I agree that we need to invest in the development alternative energy sources, but we have to do it with some common sense.

We simply cannot afford to cap energy production and tax our energy producers at a time when our economy is hanging in the balance.  Cap and Trade is a recipe for disaster and you need to tell your fellow  congressmen and women that this is not the solution we need at this time.

I am aware that alternative energy is an issue that has great significance to you and your business ventures.  I urge you to recuse yourself from a vote if you have any potential conflict of interest or stand to benefit in any way from the passage of this bill.

Please find it within yourself to let the free market move America to a clean energy economy and resist the temptation to try and legislate a solution to the controversial climate change issue.

Sincerely,

-Me
