The Democratic Congress and the Obama Adminsitration may fool themsleves and some of the American people, but they are not fooling me.

Today Al Gore tried to downplay ClimateGate by saying it was just a few 10 year old e-mails.  Mr. Gore is lying.  The e-mails are as recent as November of this year.  And in addition to the e-mails that show “scientists” conspiring to “hide the decline”, apply “Mikes’ Nature trick”, and ostracize any disparate viewpoint, there is additional evidence in the leaked data that actually exposes the corruption in the statistical data computations relied on by the United Nations and the EPA.

Double Down on Record Debt

Spent more last year than ever.  On track to spend even more this year.   The Obama / Pelosi / Reid machine is spending the economy to oblivion.  Reuters looks at the latest CBO report:

 

WASHINGTON, Dec 4 (Reuters) - The U.S. government racked up a gaping shortfall in the first two months of this fiscal year after posting a record budget deficit last year, congressional analysts said on Friday.

That was even worse than the same period last year, when the government was on its way to posting a record $1.4 trillion deficit for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30.


 

 

I am wondering what will happen when it all collapses.   I sincerely think the United States of America is in peril.   When Healthcare and Cap and Tax are added we will be beyond the tipping point.

Today is the day that the idea of Google died for me

Google has pissed me off recently with their liberal agenda.  I have noticed they hide results of news items that are not in line with their political ideology (ClimateGate).  I also have noticed that it pains them to celebrate American historical events and traditions.  For  example, today is Pearl Harbor day and there is no mention of it on Google.  (My new search engine Bing, by comparison, put up a nice picture of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial.)

 

But here is a real kicker that Google CEO Eric Schmidt laid on the world:

That one there is a deal breaker for me.  I am sad because I thought Google revolutionized search and I also was a huge fan of their Maps and Earth technology.  At this point, I will wean myself off of any Google service and product that I can manage, which sucks because I was all in on Google and I use them for many things including email and blogging.  But if the CEO has that opinion about privacy then he does not understand the US Constitution and fundamental American principals.

Insurmountable Debt

Our government is borrowing and spending too much money. It will collapse the economy soon. The first people to trumpet this news

were called right-wing paranoid whack jobs. What will they say now that the NYT is bringing the issue to the forefront?

Treasury officials now face a trifecta of headaches: a mountain of new debt, a balloon of short-term borrowings that come due in the months ahead, and interest rates that are sure to climb back to normal as soon as the Federal Reserve decides that the emergency has passed.

Even as Treasury officials are racing to lock in today’s low rates by exchanging short-term borrowings for long-term bonds, the government faces a payment shock similar to those that sent legions of overstretched homeowners into default on their mortgages.

The problem, many analysts say, is that record government deficits have arrived just as the long-feared explosion begins in spending on benefits under Medicare and Social Security. The nation’s oldest baby boomers are approaching 65, setting off what experts have warned for years will be a fiscal nightmare for the government.

“Clever debt management strategy,” the group said, “can’t completely substitute for prudent fiscal policy.”

We cannot afford The Public Option

We don’t believe salesman when they tell us something is free.  We know better.  But yet, many believe the government can provide services for free.  Since about half of Americans do not pay Federal Income Tax, I can see how they might not realize that Government spends taxpayer dollars.  But they do.  And they are spending not only our dollars, but the dollars of future generations.   We are not being told the truth about the costs of this bill, and when you look at the current economic situation in the US, it is obvious the proposed healthcare legislation will bankrupt the United States.

 

We are not being told the truth:

This bill is claimed by politicians (and echoed by the media) to be deficit neutral.  That means that it doesn’t cost us anything over a 10 year period.  That should sound illogical to you.  The idea is that by including 30 million more people in preventative healthcare they can “bend the curve” of costs to make up for providing healthcare those on the public option.    The non partisan Congressional Budget Office blows the lid off of the “deficit neutral” lie and pegs the cost at $1.2 Trillion over 10 years.  What’s another Trillion over 10 years right?  But the $1 Trillion is a cooked up number that is intentionally deceptively.

 

First consider that the new taxes will start being collected immediately.   We pay in for 4 years before services start getting delivered.  The delay in starting the services pushes the full costs of the program out past the 10 year forecast point.  If you look at the curve of the spending, you can see that a longer forecast is needed to understand the true cost. Your government is lying to you to steal your children’s future.   Source

 

UNDERESTIMATED COSTS

Also consider the governments estimates when they are trying to be honest.  Government has a perfect track record of underestimating the cost of programs.  Actual Medicare and Social Security are a multiple of what the government originally predicted.     The more recent Medicare Part D prescription Benefit enacted by the Bush-era government is  within budget, but the costs are still expected to rise; “According to USA Today, Medicare drug costs are expected to rise by 2011 "as early savings fade" and the first of 79 million baby boomers start the program (Cauchon, USA Today, 10/31”)

 

 

ADDITIONAL COSTS:
There is other legislation outside of this bill that is not being scored in the costs.  The so-called “Doctors Fix” is an additional $247 Billion plan to reduce Medicare physician payments.  Another Quarter of a Trillion right now that is not counted in the costs of the program.  You can’t advertise the price of a car only to be found out you have to buy the engine separately.  (There are laws against it.  That’s why car commercials have all the legal disclaimers.)  Plus, part of the stimulus went into the Health Care Reserve fund so we have already gotten stolen from a little bit to offset these costs.  The accounting that Congress is doing with the costs of the healthcare reform is also criminal.

 

 

But some things are plain to see:

 

Not everything is hidden.  Some stuff is right in the bill for all to see.  You didn’t think they were going to pay for all this  by “bending the curve” did you?  Nope.  Even if they bend the curve, which they won’t, the bill includes many new taxes on you and your employer, and cuts to the existing Medicare program.

 

 Increased Taxes:  The proposed healthcare plan includes billions in new taxes, including:

·        Tax on high-end health insurance plans: $149.1 billion

·        Capping flexible spending accounts at $2,500: $14.6 billion

·        Fees for drug makers: $22.2 billion

·        Fees for medical device makers: $19.3 billion

·        Fees for health insurance companies: $60.4 billion

·        Higher floor for deducting medical expenses: $15.2 billion

·        Higher payroll tax for top earners: $53.8 billion

·        Tax on cosmetic surgery: $5.8 billion  from WSJ

Medicare Cuts: 

Seniors pay attention.  This bill cuts Medicare spending.  It cuts payments to doctors and it will cut costs by rationing services.   I’ll let the LA Times explain it:


A plan to slash more than $500 billion from future Medicare spending -- one of the biggest sources of funding for President Obama's proposed overhaul of the nation's healthcare system -- would sharply reduce benefits for some senior citizens and could jeopardize access to care for millions of others, according to a government evaluation released Saturday. From LAT 

 

Bought of Legislators:

Senator Mary Landrieu is getting $100M to vote for this bill.   ABC reported yesterday that the bill contains pages of special legislation  giving Louisiana increased federal Medicaid subsidies.  This is the ugliness of pork right in your face.  P 432 of the Senate bill.   Landrieu was on the fence until this got added.  Now she’s sure it is good for the country.  These people are acting with self interest and have no concern for the sustainability of anything other than their own careers.    

 

We don’t have the money for this. 

The government cannot afford its existing commitments.  Medicare and Social Security go bankrupt in the near future.  Does it make sense to double down and go all in to cover 30 million more people (Americans?).  Our national debt has doubled from $5.98 Trillion in 2002 to over $12 Trillion right now.  In seven years we added $6 Trillion in debt.    That is nothing compared to what is about to come.  Here is a quote from the non-partisan CBO

 

Enactment of stimulus legislation and omnibus appropri­ations, a worsening of the economic outlook, and other factors have increased CBO’s projections of the deficit by more than $400 billion in both 2009 and 2010 and by smaller amounts thereafter. As a result, if current policies remain the same, CBO now anticipates that the deficit will total almost $1.7 trillion (11.9 percent of gross domestic product, or GDP) this year and $1.1 trillion (7.9 percent of GDP) next year, the largest deficits as a share of GDP since 1945.


You remember 1945 don’t you.  When we liberated Europe and the Pacific.  Do we have the same character of country to recover from our debt now? 

 

The numbers get even worse when you look past next year.   This should absolutely shock the world:  This is from the same CBO

 

From 2010 to 2019, the cumulative deficit under the President’s proposals would total $9.3 trillion, more than double the cumulative deficit projected under the current-law assumptions embodied in CBO’s baseline… The resulting higher deficits would require additional federal borrowing; net interest paid on that borrowing would add $1.0 trillion over the 10-year period relative to the baseline. Debt held by the public would rise, from 41 percent of GDP in 2008 to 57 percent in 2009 and to 82 percent of GDP by 2019.

 

Folks, when you owe a whole years worth of salary to your credit card company, you might not be able to recover.   You certainly would be smart to go out and make a permanent commitment to a purchase something.  Especially when you cannot even be honest with the costs of that thing you want to buy.

 

You will wind up on the public option.

Some might think that the public option will not apply to them.  The politicians and the media tell you that if you like your current plan then you can keep it.  The truth is that if you modify your coverage then you can be forced to the public option.  And your employer will have an incentive to pay a 8% penalty on your wages instead of paying your health insurance.  Smart employers will cut health care benefits, pay the penalty, and you take health care from the government.    The public-option is not a noble ambition.  It is a Trojan horse designed to lead to a single payer healthcare system.  Government insurance will become the de facto standard.  Have you ever been to a government office and been pleased with the service?  Do government programs generally operate efficiently?  These are rhetorical questions because we all know the answer.

 

Why are they doing this?

The proposed Healthcare bill is pure politics.  A big driving factor is that the Unions that influence the White House.  Andy Stern of SEIU is the most frequent visitor at the White House and Obama is on record saying that he listens to SEIU.  The Unions need public health insurance because they have unfunded commitments to pensioners.  The Unions want to deflect the cost of providing healthcare to the public because they have overcommitted and skimmed too much for too long.    There is also the effect of buying the votes of 30 million people.  In theory, people who pay no taxes and who now received subsidized or free healthcare will rewards the politicians with a permanent allegiance.    Lawyers also stand to benefit from the new legislation which will allow suits against insurance companies if they deny coverage.  The House bill will limit certain funds to states if the state has enacted punitive damage limits.  So rather than tort reform, there will be new causes of action created and penalties against state reforms.  76% of Americans are satisfied with their healthcare right now.  But yet this nonsense is about to happen.  It is politics and special interests.

 

We have to do something though right?

Healthcare costs are rising faster than incomes and it is sometimes hard to find affordable health insurance.  But there are free-market reforms that can be enacted to turn things around.  Health-savings accounts with high deductible insurance policies, tort reform,  regulation protecting those with pre-existing conditions, regulation allowing interstate competition, changes in tax codes to encourage individual health insurance policies.  I think the third-party payer system encourages waste.  If someone else is paying the bill , you are never as cautious with the money.  Congress knows this.  You know this.  I am in favor of a direct pay system where private individual pay for services as needed.  You get insurance to pay for catastrophic sickness and injuries.  You pay cash for routine office visit stuff.  Cash prices could be negotiated and competitive (currently prohibited by insurance contracts).  Consider the auto insurance analogy:  you have auto insurance for when you get in a wreck.  You don’t use auto-insurance when you need an oil change, a tune-up, or new tires.  Yet we expect our medical insurance to cover routine checkups and minor treatments.  We need to think differently about this to control costs.  We need to ration our own care before the government has to step in and do it for us.

 

Anyhow, I am off the subject a bit.  We can talk about alternative  solutions soon.  This article was mainly to convince that the money simply isn’t there to do this.  The costs are being hidden and congress is deceiving the public.  Tomorrow is a critical vote in the Senate.  By tomorrow night we will know whether the Public-option survives and whether we jumped off the financial cliff into oblivion.  China, our other largest debt holders must be watching with baited breath.  I know I am.

Net Neutrality is a Misnomer

Don’t believe the hype.  Net Neutrality is not about making sure Comcast doesn’t block high bandwidth subscribers.  It is about government regulation of the internet.  It is about government control of the infrastructure and then the content of the internet.  Once the government is the provider of the services, like the Broadband Act calls for, it can dictate the content.

Teabagger comment is rude and sophomoric

Congratulations John.  You managed to win an election against a relative unknown in a heavily democratic district.  You only dropped 25 points compared to your predecessor who carried the district by a much more significant margin than you did. 

 

I read a quote of yours today in “The Independent” (“Garamendi Looks for Quick Swearing-in”, Nov 5, 2009) and I wanted to express my displeasure with your comment.  You say that your opponent had “the Tea Baggers agenda.”  I just wanted to let you know that that is insulting.  The movement is called the Tea Party movement and it refers to the populaces dissatisfaction with taxation levels and out of control government.  It is a reference to the Boston Tea Party which was a significant event in US history.   Your slur comparing it to a graphic sexual practice is very telling.

 

I am glad that you are so confident that you are willing to disparage your opponents supporters the day after the election.  I think you just insulted about 40% of the voters in your district.  You have one year before you have to run for re-election.

 

Good luck friend.  You are on my list and I will do everything I can to see you defeated.

CA-10 Election Results

The Democrat won the election in CA’s 10th district last night.  As I blogged about before, the Democrats had to run a prize candidate and outspend the Republicans in order to keep a seat that they won by 34% one year ago. 

 

Republican challenger David Harmer ended up losing by 10%.  So in one year the Democrats lost 24% of their support.

Wisdom of Children

Last night I was attempting to instill some personal responsibility and accountability in my 6 year old son.  I figured since he goes to school in California he is being bombarded by liberal messages, so a little counter programming would be a good thing. 

 

I told him that when he grows up he should not depend on the Government to provide him with things.  He asked why.  I said “Because if the Government is powerful enough to give you things, it is powerful enough to take them away.”  As I was about to continue, he interrupted and said.  “It’s better to earn it right Dad?”    “Yes son.  It is better to earn it” I replied with a great big squeeze.

 

It is amazing to me that a 1st grader has the ability to comprehend this, yet many of our 536 elected officials in DC fail to grasp the simple concept. 

 

Stop the bailouts.  Stop the Government power grabs.  Stop the nanny state attempts to control our lives.  And for crying out loud, stop the spending.  This country was founded on the backs of the individual trying to fulfill the American dream.  When the individual has the potential to fail, there is motivation to succeed.   This is the engine that drives us to prosperity.  If you owe your existence to a handout or a bailout, then you will just sit back and take what comes.  That is not the model for prosperity.  This is not what we want to teach our children.

Assessment of CA-10 Special Election Race

There is a congressional special election in California next week in the district next to mine (CA-10).  This election is to fill the vacant seat left by Obama appointee Ellen Tauscher, a Democrat who won her seat in 2008 by +34 percentage points.  The Democratic Candidate is the current Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, until recently a possible candidate for Governor  who has been in statewide and National politician for over 20 years.  I actually think Congressman will be a demotion for him,  but it shows just how far the Democrat’s needed to go to win the race.  The district leans blue and Obama carried it by +31. The district hasn’t voted republican since 1994.  And they need to put up a guy with Statewide recognition to keep it safe.

 

The Republican challenger is David Hamer.   He looks like a fine candidate, but he is not a powerhouse figure by any means.   This is his first campaign as I understand it.      

 

But recent polls put the Republican challenger down by 7 points.  This district may not swing, but ominous signs are still there.  The Democrats put up their best guy and win narrowly instead of by +30.    The more moderate districts will swing to Republican in 2010 if this trend holds.

Enumerated Powers

Yesterday the Senate Finance committee passed a Healthcare bill that includes health insurance mandates.  These mandates require Americans to buy health insurance or else face a fine. 

 

Putting aside all other issues for now, I think this may be unconstitutional. 

 

The Federal Government is one with enumerated powers.  That means the founders of the country set up limits to what the Federal government can do.  The main source of power for most laws is the Tax and Spend clause and the Interstate Commerce Clause.   I don’t see how either of these qualify the Federal Government to mandate that I buy an insurance product. 

 

Bottom line:  Do you think the Federal Government has the constitutional authority to mandate the purchase of a commercial product?  Could they tell you that you had to buy a GM car?  Or an Apple computer?    I don’t think so, and I look forward to the debate.

 

They might try to wiggle around this by somehow pushing it to the states to enforce the law.  States have a general policing power that gives them more regulatory authority than the Federal Government.  But at first blush I am just not seeing how this can stand up to constitutional scrutiny.

San Diego Vacation

My folks just took my family to San Diego for four days.  We stayed at the luxurious Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown.   It was wonderful time with family enjoying the active lifestyle of San Diego.  We went to LegoLand, hiking at Torrey Pines State Park and Beach,  Sea World (with all you can eat passes!), and we took a tour of the aircraft carrier USS Midway.   We also got to visit with my wife’s brother and fiancĂ©e for a day.

 

All told it was a great time.   Many in the family over ate.  I may have done that myself, but I got a couple of nice runs in along the waterfront so I am not feeling too stuffed.

Chicago Does not Deserve the Olympics

The boy hit in the head and killed was an honors student who never got into trouble before. Witness accounts say he was trying to help even though he was not in either of the gangs that were the root cause of the dispute. Three arrests have been made and murder charges have been filed.

I am from Illinois and I am disgusted. I am disgusted at the lack of appreciation for life, and at the President's constant preaching about social justice. He has not been able to change Chicago and he is failing on the world stage now too.

Obama's Speech to Schools

The President released the text of the speech he will deliver to our kids tomorrow.  It is here.  I read it and here is what I have to say:
 
1) The fact that this text was released in advance is a result of the pressure and reaction of the public.  It was not an irrational respone of parents to be concerned about the address to children.  Michelle Malkin has detailed the scariest aspects of indoctination and the cult of Obama that are legitimate issues.
 
2) Overall, the speech is pretty mild and I agree with much of what the President has to say. Was the speech toned down because of public pressure ?  I guess we will never know, but I think they knew had to tread lightly because we were watching.
 
3) There are lines in the speech that promote left leaning issues: "protect our enviroment",   "fight poverty and homelessness", "make our nation more fair", "fight ... discrimination."  But there are some bones thrown to liberty and freedom as well: "make our nation ... more free", "build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy."  He throws in the fighting crime and curing cancer for good measure.  It is hard to argue with that.  I think it up to each parent to read the speech and talk about it with thier kids.
 
4) I am glad he tells the kids to put down the X-Box.  I am a Playstation guy
 
Summary:  I beleive the president has political motivation to win the hearts and minds of the kids.  They are future supporters and he is a politician. But I also beleieve he is trying to reach out to kids a failing public school system.  It is obvious that the breakdown of the famliy is a big part of the education issue as well.  I am going to let my kids watch the speech (if their school is even showing it) and then talk to them about it.  The citizens have done a good job keeping their government honest.

This raises serious constitutional concerns about the concentration of power within the Executive branch. If Bush had done this the left woudl have gone ballistic over Bush using the FBI to torture terrorists. At least the CIA had some amount of congressional oversight. Who is going to watch over Obama's elite team? Why is the FBI involved? Don't they investigate domestic crimes? Will this program include interrogation of American's? The whole thing scare me. Remember when Obama talked about a civillian national security force. Is this part of that? I know that is reactionary, but we are not supposed to just trust that our government will not abuse its power. The system was constructed so that there were checks and balances that kept government from being abusive. I don't think Barack likes that structure.

Great quote from Thatcher. Good article detailing some of the market based reforms that could reduce healthcare insurance costs. This author expands on my 4 point plan that I posted two days ago (sans mentioning immigration reform) and also adds other points that I failed to include.

Sometimes new buzzwords make me ill. The one that I am currently rampaging against is “walk back” which is a clever euphemism used when someone should retract, correct, or apologize for a statement, yet is not willing to publicly accept that they made an incorrect or stupid statement.

I get the sense that this administration will be doing this so often they needed a term that makes correcting yourself seem like a fun exercise. Bunch of liars and/or idiots.

Here are some uses I have seen:

It was President Barack Obama who suggested the visit after walking back the remarks he had made at a press conference last week.

And over the past several days, both the White House and PhRMA have offered a series of sometimes conflicting accounts of what happened in an attempt to walk back the story.

this may be the first sign that the administration is trying, as Sen. Jim DeMint put it, to “walk back” its support for Zelaya.

Glenn Beck Advertising

Word is that there is pressure to silence Glenn Beck by getting is advertisers to boycott his show. Redstate has the info.

Here is the letter I sent to the advertisers who have agreed to boycott:

I am writing to express my support for Glenn Beck. I understand you have boycotted advertising on the Glenn Beck program.

Glenn Beck is not a radical. He is expressing an important point of view that is resonating with many Americans concerned with the power and influence of the Federal government.

I am concerned that your actions will stifle debate and have a chilling effect on free speech in the media. I realize that you are private enterprise not governed by the first amendment and you have every right to decide how to spend your advertising dollars, but it is the government that is pressuring you to punish this individual who is a voice of dissent.

I encourage you to reconsider your position on this. Investigate the facts and resist the pressure being placed on you to boycott his program. Glenn speaks for me and I follow his lead. I will not be doing business with you if you continue to boycott Glenn Beck in reaction to pressure from political action groups or PR firms connected to the administration.

"It Is the post office that is always having problems?"

Here is the president admitting that the government has a hard time running programs that compete against private industry. He cites the post office as an example compared to FedEx and UPS.

Yet, the argument is that a public government option will increase competition. You cannot argue both sides of that coin. The president is caught in a catch 22.

At the end of the linked video he admits that it is essential “that it is not setup where the government is basically being subsidized by the taxpayers so that even if they are not providing a good deal, we keep having to pony out more and more money.”

So how does the Post Office analogy hold up: “Postmaster General John E. Potter says the Postal Service now expects to run a record $7 billion deficit in 2009, up from projections in March of $6 billion.”

I don’t believe the government can fund this by creating cost savings. I don’t believe the cost projections coming from Congress or the Whitehouse. I don’t believe in “bending the curve.” I don’t believe the government will be able to be competitive without the taxpayer “having to pony out more and more money.” They have no plan. The economics of their scheme just do not add up.

Do you want real healthcare reform?

This is my four point solution to the rising healthcare costs

1) Encourage Individual/Family Policies: Take the employer out of the health insurance game. My boss does not negotiate nor purchase my home, auto, or life polcies. Why should he be responsible for my health insurance? When the employer provides group insurance the costs of insurance are hidden from the individual. Let's put the costs of insurance in front and center of the consumer. If my employer does not have to pay my health insurance premiums, I expect my wages will increase to maintain my overall benefits package. They better, or else I will seek employment elsewhere. The insurance companies would then have to compete to win the business of each individual and family. Competition is good for the consumer. Furthermore, anyone who purchases health insurance should get a tax credit. If we enact these reforms, then the individual will have resources and incentive to purchase a private individual or family policy in a healthy competitive health insurance market.

2) High Deductible Insurance with Health savings accounts: Health Savings accounts require that the owner maintain a high deductible insurance policy. All medical expenses are covered once the deductible is met ($2400 individual $4800 per famliy), but I must pay all expenses up to that amount. The amount I save in premiums compared to a co-pay policy allows me to bank thousands of dollars a year in an portable 401k investment account that I can take with me if I leave my employer. HSA policies cause me to be judicious about the medical services I seek out. We go when we are really sick, but we dont go top the emergency room for every sniffle. My average out of pocket expense per year under this system for a healthy famliy of 4 has been less than $3,000 per year.

3) Legal Reform: I have heard medical professionals talk about the fear of litigation and how it effects treatment. 20 years ago when Johnny bumped his head his parents were told to watch him closely. Now, Johnny is going to get a 3D color brain scan to make sure that doc doesn't get sued. The doc suggests this course of (over)treatment to cover his ass and mom and dad who only have to pay a co-pay are all for it. Furthermore, actual litigation and judgments push malpractice insurance so high as to chase professionals out of service. This administration has no desire to enact legal reform to assist the health care industry.

3) Immigration Reform: Many of the uninsured are not citizens. Much of the strain on the medical system and escalating costs involve these uninsured. I hate it when I hear people talk about folks dying in the streets of America, because they are uninsured. Emergency Rooms in my state treat people regardless of thier citizenship or insured status. So as it stands, the uninsured can and do get health care subsidized by the premiums of all those insured. These individuals should have affordable policies available as a result of a healthy private insurance market. They should have to buy thier own health insurance just like I have to. If our country needs the services and contributions from these immigrants, then we need to have a proper legal immigration system that eliminates the underclass of people who have to live in the shadows, and who cannot afford lifes basic necessities.

Overall, I beleive that America has the best healthcare system in the world. Our capitalist system yeilds the most innovation and advancement. The level of care has risen along with technology to the point where we expect miracles from our healthcare providers everyday. Sure there are higher costs that are an increasing burden on employers and families, but a government takeover is not the solution. Reform should come from government opening up the insurance market and from giving tax credits to make the purchase of health insuirance affordable to all. The idea that the government running a public option will do this is ridicuolus. If you want something for "free" then you are going to get what you pay for.

Reporting somethign from the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy

My letter to the whitehouse....
 
Here is something I find fishy.
 
1) The Executive Branch of the US Government asking for citizens to report fellow citizens based the content of thier speech.  You totally have my attention now because you are treading awfully close to my constitutional rights.
 
2) I find it fishy that the Whitehouse is spending taxpayer money to publish videos that counter so called "disinformation" which are actually just statements dtaken irectly from the President's own mouth.  There is no additinal context that needs to be provided to Presidents Obama's 2003 statements that he supports a single payer healthcare system.  Singlle Payer HealthCare is what he said he beleived in in 2003 and citizens have the right to know what he said on his rise to power.  You see it is hard to beleive his current rhetoric when we know what he has said in the past.  I find your efforts to be promoting "disinformation". 
 
 
For the record.  I openly oppose President Obama's plan to socialize our healthcare system.  I think this legislation will bankrupt my children's future and destroy the finest healthcare system in the world.  I will vocally speak out against Obamacare it at all turns.  It is my constitutional right and duty to do so.   That fishy smell is the disinformation from your office.

Letter to my Congressman about Health Care Bill

Congressman McNerney,

 

I have downloaded and am currently trying to read and understand HR. 3200.  I believe it is imperative that you also fully understand this legislation before you put your name to it. 

 

Real reform will come from a careful deliberative legislative process.  Not from a trumped up panic and fear that causes Congress to abandon rational action just for the sake of change.

 

Several provisions in this bill are particularly alarming.

 

I currently participate in a Health Savings Account with a high deductable family plan.  My HSA plan has saved me thousands in premiums and has encouraged me to be responsible and accountable with my healthcare consumption.  By my reading, HSA plans will be illegal after the passage of this bill.  Why eliminate and option that works for me and my family?

 

I am also very concerned with privacy issues relating to the bill.  I see provisions that allow the government to access my financial records in real time and provisions that require the government help decide end of life issues and rationing of services.  Is this really the role that American's want for their government?

 

I believe private market solutions are the only way to enact sustainable reform.  Creating a huge bureaucracy and a massive new entitlement plan will not result in better care or cost savings.  It will be one more program that burdens my children with debt and a future of diminished opportunities.

 

At the end of the day government programs are wasteful and inefficient as compared to private market based solutions.
